UNAM Pumas seek redemption at Lumen Field

The highly anticipated match between UNAM Pumas and Seattle Sounders will take place today, August 12, at Lumen Field in Seattle.

The Pumas are aiming to surpass their performance from last year, where they were eliminated in the Round of 32 by Querétaro with a narrow 1-0. Now, they face a rival with unfinished business.

Two years ago, these teams met in an epic final in the 2022 Concacaf Champions League, with the Sounders claiming a 5-2 aggregate victory.

Although only three current Pumas players (Ricardo Galindo, Jesús Rivas, and Jorge Ruvalcaba) were part of that final, the rivalry remains and adds a special intensity to this match.

The Pumas have shown consistent improvement in the Leagues Cup.

After losing their debut against Austin FC 3-2, they stayed alive by defeating Monterrey in penalties and then delivered a strong performance with a 2-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps, thanks to goals from César Chino Huerta and Jorge Ruvalcaba.

Meanwhile, Seattle Sounders finished as runners-up in the Western Group 6, with a 2-0 win over Minnesota United and a 3-1 loss to Necaxa. In the Round of 32, they comfortably defeated LA Galaxy 3-1.
