PAOK signs Mexican defender Jorge Sánchez until 2029
PAOK Thessaloniki of Greece officially announced this Friday the signing of Mexican defender Jorge Sánchez, who leaves Cruz Azul after a year and a half in Liga MX. The Greek club confirmed the operation through its social media, welcoming the 29-year-old full-back, who has signed a contract until June 2029.
According to information published by the Mexican digital news outlet López Dóriga, the player passed his medical exams without issue and will wear the number 35 jersey for the team known as “The Double-Headed Eagle.” He will immediately join the squad, which is currently competing in the Greek Super League and the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League.

PAOK’s statement highlighted Sánchez’s extensive career, developed at Santos Laguna and solidified at Club América, where he played 150 matches and won three national titles. Additionally, he brings previous European experience from Ajax in the Netherlands and Porto in Portugal, where he won the Portuguese Cup in 2024.
Although official figures were not disclosed, sources close to the negotiation indicate the transfer fee was around €4.5 million. Sánchez arrives following a successful spell at Cruz Azul, where he was a key player in winning the 2025 CONCACAF Champions League and rediscovered his best form.
With 55 appearances for the Mexican national team and two Gold Cups in his trophy cabinet (2023 and 2025), the defender will aim to maintain a high level ahead of the 2026 World Cup, where he is considered the starting right-back for El Tri.
The player is expected to complete his international registration soon and could make his debut in the coming matches, strengthening a PAOK side that aims to challenge for the domestic title and advance in Europe.
